The importance of oral hygiene

Oral hygiene is an important component of successful orthodontic treatment.

Poor brushing can cause many negative consequences such as: tooth decay, white stains (also known as decalcification), swollen or inflamed gum tissue and bad breath. Poor brushing can also lead to prolonged or abbreviated treatment times. Prolonged treatment occurs when problems arise due to poor brushing and attention is diverted from treatment to hygiene, which slows the treatment process.

Abbreviated treatment occurs when the hygiene is so poor as to cause a decision to end treatment without achieving the original goals of treatment. This usually occurs when the orthodontist is trying not to cause permanent damage to the teeth or gum tissues due to a lack of proper hygiene.

It’s important to note that a lack of proper brushing is due to one problem and one problem only - the difficulty of brushing thoroughly with braces on the teeth.

Everyone with braces tries to brush their teeth thoroughly, however, the majority of patients cannot achieve a great result. Therefore, most patients face potential hygiene problems.

An ordinary toothbrush is designed to brush teeth without braces on, makes brushing with braces very difficult. The brush is not designed to brush around and between the brackets and thoroughly to the gum line.

Ortho-buddy achieves this goal, easily, effectively and quickly. Adding Ortho-buddy to your normal brushing routine during orthodontic treatment eliminates the problems associated with poor brushing.

Ortho-buddy gives you the confidence that your hygiene stays excellent during treatment.
